The family portrait

So on Sunday my boy Matthew (on the left) turned 18.
What a great day to have a family portrait taken, here are some of the outtakes.  Even the dog, Disney wouldn't look at the camera after a while.

Here is the Princess of the family striking a pose.

OOPS!

So my Tuesday night at Doll class started FANTASTICALLY.
Chris and I poured ourselves a lovely glass of chilled french chardonnay and we started to get to work.
I had to clean this 'breast plate' for my Alice in Wonderland Doll, but now I'm thinking maybe a Snow White would be cute ......
So as I said it 'started'.......

AND this is how it finished!!!!.....I had just finished cleaning the breast plate, 3 hours worth, and ONLY 1 glass of wine, Honestly I then went on to coffee.....
I was gently blowing the excess dust off and I heard what seemed to be like the sound of an 'earthquake'.....and my poor little breast plate crumbled and crashed to the floor!!!!
I then spent the next couple of hours finishing off the legs and arms.....
I will attack another breast plate next week!!!! BUT IM NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!

My Tuesday Nights

On Tuesday nights you will most likely find me at my Doll Making Class.
I made a little baby doll earlier this year, the poor thing is yet to have her clothing made.
And now my next project is this doll.
She is much larger and when done I think, well at this stage, she will be Alice in Wonderland, but then again she might turn out to be Snow White or even maybe just maybe a Mrs Claus.

Looking forward to catching up with friends

What a lovely way to finish off the week.  I'm meeting up with 3 friends, and we don't manage to get together all that often, for a glass of lovely chilled wine at one of our favourite spots,  Border Wine Room.

I am looking forward to some loud laughter and some funny stories as we catch up on each others lives.

My night to do some binding

A while ago I made this quilt out of a jelly roll of French General FaLaLaLaLa fabric.
I think I will be putting this quilt on top of the Grand Piano this year at Christmas Time.
It will make a lovely spot for our snowglobe collection.
Here is the back of the quilt, didnt Pat from A1 Quilting do a fantastic job?
She really does know her stuff and I could not recommend her enough if you have any machine quilting that you need to be done.

So my job now is to hand stitch the binding....... I best put a television show on and get comfy on the couch.

Till next time, Michele

I am also a knit wit......

Last week I visited my favourite knitting shop K2Tog and had a great chat with Jenny.
I saw this gorgeous pompom wool there and just had to make the scarf on display out of it.
It took around an hour to make the scarf and so I made one for my daughter in cream and one for me in red.

Here is the red one, and when Miss Lily gets home from school I will put up a photo of us showing off our newest additions to our wardrobe.
Im thinking I might have to duck in and see Jenny again tomorrow to get some more as these would make great gifts during those colder months.

Friday night sewing

I will be doing a little bit of sewing tonight, but first hubby is taking me out for Indian....yum yum.
Why the picture of Whoopies? because I seem to have chocolate on the brain today...

I'm not sure what I will be sewing, I do have a few things on the go....

One thing I need to get done is my Friendship Embroidery Swap that I am in....once I work out how to put up the button I will :)
I am doing it in French General - one of my all time favourite ranges - Paniers De Fleurs...

Once that is done, maybe I could finish the Angel Quilt that will be hung in the shop....It's nearly done and I just have to quilt it and bind it.

I'm hoping my friend De will be also whipping up a sewing storm tonight and she has amazing things on her blog so go check it out.....

YAY my Jim Shore quilt is finished

I made this quilt in january when our store was shut for annual leave.
It is titled 'Angels Amongst Us' and the kit and pattern were purchased last year.
I sent a lot of quilts off to Pat, the machine quilter, and this one came back last week.
I'm thrilled with it.
I think it should hang in the shop till Christmas this year right behind all the lovely Jim Shore ornaments we have in stock.
I really am pleased with this and I hope it brings a smile to your face.

All in a days work

Well this is the pincushion.  I am a little chuffed about finally finishing this.
Thinking I should put a little check list on the side of this blog jsut to keep reminding me of how many projects I actually finish during a month at a time.
Loving the pretty colours, so not usually me.

Hexagons, something I have wanted to try.......

A while ago I purchased a charm pack from Carolyn's to make a pin cushion.
I seem to be on a mission this week to get a lot of UFO's completed.  I am trying to get as much done as I possibly can before the Christmas rush starts up at work.

I have always wanted to play around with hexagons, and this was the perfect project with which to do just that.

All things going to plan I should have a completed photo to show you by the end of the day.
You can find the pattern for this pincushion right here.
It is a perfect day for a little sewing, dont you think?

Firday Night Sew In

Last Friday night I participated in a Friday Night Sew In and though I admit I did not start a 'new' project but I did finish a UFO that has been in my sewing room for over a year now.  So I can not complain about that.
Do not get me wrong, I LOVE starting new things, but there does come a time when I really have to get some done and dusted, so to speak.
So this one is now waiting to be handing over to the lovely Pat for her machine quilting skills.

Heart and Home

This pattern by Suzanne McNeill is a great quilt to use up your stash. I have a jelly roll of 'crazy 8' fabric from Moda. I wanted to use this in a wall quilt for our home at Christmas time but I wanted something different to a 'Christmas' quilt.
This quilt is just what I have been looking for.

The beginnings of a pin cushion

I picked up a kit a few months ago to make a pin cushion out of hexagons. I never saw myself making a hexagon quilt but I wanted to learn the technique. Perfect solution = a pincushion. I also ventured away from my usual colour schemes and went shabby chic...... I'm liking it :)

3 People passed on to be with God this week, all of them taken way to soon for their friends and their families.
I pray that everyone close to them finds peace and understanding at this time.
May their memories be in our hearts forever and may they now dance and sing with the angels with no more pain.
RIP - Owen (aged 42), Saba, and Olivia (aged 8).

It's nearly time.
I tossed and turned about what I was going to make tonight.
I selected the charm pack I wanted to work with.
In the end I have decided to finish a UFO, its a variation on 9 patch that I just need to finish.
Boring, probably, as in Im not starting a new project.
BUT if you could see the list of UFO's you would totally understand why this is a sensible decision.
Progress photos will be posted at regular intervals during the night.
Let's just see how far I get before I hit the wall......

This is a great way to spend a Friday night...you should give it a go sometime.

Keep those stitches coming,
Michele

Pre-Cut Party

What are you doing this Friday night?
I noticed on De's blog that Sarah is running a Pre-Cut Party.
There are times when it is just hard to get out of the house to meet up with women to do some sewing.   I love this idea of using technology to move along my sewing mojo.  I will be at home Friday night sewing up a storm knowing that others will be doing the same and I can not wait to share my project when it's done.
I have a charm pack that I have had for ages sitting there just waiting to be turned into a fantastic piece of art with my little hands and sewing machine.
The pack is from Moda and it's called Arnold's Attic by Barbara Brackman. Now to go off and find a cute little project to do.
